Thanks for all the pics and the ice status. Thinking of coming up this weekend and skiing/skating from Wasauksing to Turning. From ice charts it looks like there is tons of ice and from pics above, seems like there is no issue. Any thoughts on ice quality? Are there clear patches up that way or is it all snow covered.
The ice is mostly snow covered. Do not attempt this unless you know the route. It is very different route than going by boat. The water flows in channels between islands making for thin ice or open water even in the coldest conditions. Snowmobilers have developed overland trails to avoid these areas.
Thanks. We did this a few years ago and basically stayed in Wabuno channel and away from the small boat channel the whole way for exactly that reason. we went exploring and you could see sketchy areas in the small boat channel through some of the narrow channels.
