The latest weather event has left about 6" of new snow which the wind has formed into snow drifts on the ice.  It makes for slow going.  There is also significant patches of slush especially near the shore.  Taken Jan.31/19

I found 4" of ice with 4" of half frozen slush on top here at the west narrows of the Indian Dock Channel.  There is a lot more flow through this channel because the water is so high.  Current flow can quickly thin the ice.  The current is caused by the water level changing because of wind effects.  Be careful here especially after high wind events.  Taken Jan.26/19
I found 10 " of ice on the north side of Shasha Is.  Taken Jan.26/19

I found 9" of ice in the center of the channel between Beauty Is. and Shash Is.  The ice has 4 t0 6" of snow with some slushy patches mostly near the shore.  Taken Jan.26/19

I found 10 " of ice about 500' out from Gash Island between Bernk Island.  Taken Jan.26/19

This series of pictures was taken at the entrance to the trail across from Craganmor Point Resort.  There is and alternate trail from here into Kineras Bay that avoids the bad ice around the point.  Taken Jan.24/19

I found 10" of ice on Seven Mile Bay between Wheelers and the mainland.  Taken Jan.24/19

I ran the trials between Kineras bay and Spider Lake.  They are all usable.  Taken Jan.24/19

Winter Access Update

Access over Parry Island from the Menominee Channel remains closed.

Access to the harbor can be made by a short run along the shoulder of the road  from the OFSC trail to Georgian Bay Marina.  Georgian Bay Marina is open in the winter selling gas, servicing and repairing snowmobiles and selling parts.  They can also provide parking for cars and trailers.  They can also snowmobile people out to cottages.  Call ahead to arrange for parking or other services.  705-746-9559

I found 8" of ice here at the east marrows of the Indian Dock Channel.  Taken Jan.13/19

I found 8" of ice in the middle of Five Mile Bay on the white ice near the snowmobile as well as the whole length from The Indian Dock Channel.  I found 7" of black ice at the formerly open pool in the center of the bay.  Taken Jan. 13/19
Please note that there is no access to the south channel by snow mobile from Parry sound because of the trials being closed over Parry Island and a bubber at the boat launch at Glen Burney Marina.  Some people are looking into this and hopefully a resolution can be found.  I will keep you posted.
